S] How are you guys?
I’m good! Excited that we announced our new record.
S] What thoughts and feelings inspired ‘Ego’?
I want to be a better person and be more self aware. I was thinking about how important it is to check yourself and be grateful. I think it’s interesting that the ego can make you feel like you’re the best and the worst at the same time. It’s easy to be caught up in narcissistic crap. It’s important to focus on being a good person for the people around you. The song deals with those themes and is a reminder for me.
S] What are the biggest challenges you face as a band now?
Touring and being away from home can sometimes be hard. I don’t think people realize how difficult it is to not have your own bed and a stable routine.
S] What motivates you outside of music – think movies, people and places for example?
My friends are inspiring. I work in animation and a lot of my friends are artists. It’s inspiring to see different forms of artists make work and be passionate.
S] How do you define success as a band?
Success is relative. I’ve never loved extremely mainstream music or art. I think we’re successful if we like what we are doing and are impacting even just one person in a positive way.
