S] What inspires your music?
If you are asking about musical influences, I am inspired by all types of things. My iTunes has everything from Dave Matthews and Matchbox 20, to J Cole and The Chainsmokers. I find my taste in music to be a lot like food; sometimes I crave something sweet and mellow, and other times I want spicy and bold. I really try not to box myself into one style, or flavour.
Variety is the spice of life. I’m really partial to Rock music, but you’ll find all types of stuff if you look hard enough.
S] What’s been a career highlight?
Hmmm, this is a hard one. I would say winning the award for “Best Alternative Rock EP” in LA was a big moral booster for me. That, or when the airline asked me to perform for the First Class passengers, mid-flight, at 30,000 feet.
There are a lot of highlights, I feel. I love what I do, but I would say the most validating moment was when I realised my streams on Spotify were generating enough to pay my rent. That was a huge turning point in my career.
S] What motivates you outside of music – think people and places?
Life. Emotion. Struggle. Reality. If I had to say, it’s inspiration that finds me. I never really look for it, but I find it embracing me in my travels, and the people I meet on the road; their stories, their smiles, their hardships and fortunes. I can see myself in everyone of those people, and it really helps me articulate those feelings into song.
S] What are your plans for the future?
I’m currently working with comedian Dan Ellison, The Educated Redneck, on a bi-annual National Tour here in the States. We do this 30-40 show tour twice a year, in the Spring and Fall, and our Summers are left open for the Festival season. We really want to do a European tour.
We had plans to tour there last year, but they had fallen through; so it is definitely on the top of our list for the near future! This Summer, on top of the Festivals here, we are going to release the videos for all the songs on my EP along with a few “One-Take Sessions” that we have been planning. You can find all of those on my YouTube Channel. What I’m most excited about is releasing my new EP next year in March of 2018, just in time for our fourth National tour in the Spring! Please! Keep up to date with us on my website. We would love to hear from you all!
