The undisputed kings of shoegaze, or rather nu-gaze are back in Leeds, tonight. It’s a hazy, beautiful and cold evening that’s made even more special by local band, Magic Mountain supporting, in the absence of …Trail Of The Dead.

Vitriol run through classics like ‘Always: Your Way’ and ‘Cemented Shoes’ with a seemingly effortless cool, and infectious energy. It’s a sweaty, packed out Brudenell, and it’s the perfect venue for the return of one of UK rock’s most underrated bands.

Time away has done nothing to the band’s abilities on-stage; three consumate musicians present the best they have to offer over an extended ‘Finelines’ playthrough that excites casual fans, and clearly causes a great stir in emotion from those who have followed the band for over a decade.

Something truly special happened tonight, and we hope that the threesome feel the great impact of their work, enough to continue to build on their most excellent legacy.

Was I at the same gig?
What happened to the bloc party bass player
to cover for maternity leave of the current bass player?
A backing track bass line obviously just sounded
lifeless and artificial. Also the drummer using
something like 10 inch crash symbols (rather than your usual 16ish?) just didn’t cut through the mix at all especially without the use of overheads. I appreciate that’s the sound engineers fault, but overall I was disappointed.
