Australia’s Tropical Fuck Storm continue their hot streak of brain-bending releases with Moonburn, a maxi-single cassette out today on Joyful Noise Recordings. To celebrate its release, the band are sharing its tense, meandering and, ultimately, colossal title track – a ballad in the classic TFS style of which Gareth Liddiard writes, “‘Moonburn’ is about not being able to hide from everything or anyone. But in the end, who cares? Everyone’s a fuck up. It’s like what Billy Joel sings: “you’re only human, woohoo!” ‘Moonburn’ is like that Billy Joel song, except better. “
TFS previously announced Moonburn with a cover of The Stooges‘ ‘Ann‘. Bassist Fiona Kitschin steps up to the microphone on a cover that swaps Ron Asheton‘s scorching guitar part for a deranged sound collage of guitar freakouts, siren noises, and electronics. It came accompanied by a video directed by Sam Mapplebeck, which Liddiard calls “a cheap shit DIY, high explosive puppeteering miniature concert shrinkage film clip.”

Alongside ‘Moonburn’ and ‘Ann’, the cassette also includes an acoustic take on the fan-favourite song ‘Aspirin (Slight Return)‘ and a haunting cover of Talking Heads‘ ‘Heaven‘.
