July Talk marks the release of Pray For It, out today, with a new video for “Good Enough” that conveys the sonic and visual evolution of the band’s third album in unblinking, hypnotic fashion. Known for their kinetic, quick-cutting visuals, “Good Enough” finds the lens lingering longer, creating breathing room for Fay’s embodied psyche. From the heart-clenching moments high atop ledges to the long exhale of Fay’s highway run in Joshua Tree, Fay expresses the song’s encounters with emotional turmoil.
Throughout Pray For It, July Talk reckons with vulnerability as a powerful and necessary mindset for personal and communal renewal. From album opener, “Identical Love” to the ominous, unsettling closing track “Still Sacred,” introduced with a jaw-dropping video piece that operates as album thesis and short film, set amidst the marble shrines of a broken system, the album seeks transformation over repetition. Black + white and vividly complex, Pray For It is about breaking patterns of action and reaction to begin again.
Resolute in their vision and unafraid to escape the cage, July Talk’s path has never been through fitting in. Their music, viscerally, blisteringly hot, sliced right through the alternative and rock charts for multiple number one singles. Their churning and fiercely physical performances make spaces hiss and hum, spit and seethe in glorious, artful abandon. With Pray For It, July Talk continues to rise with purpose and poise. From the start, the band has fostered a community of creators and collaborators on stage, on film and among those also challenging systemic inequities. July Talk has also grown in their roles as advocates of an urgent and fundamental music industry recalibration, through curatorial partnerships with festivals and by defining their own parameters for safer spaces at rock shows.
Pray For It is out now on Sleepless Records in Canada and BMG worldwide.
