Witch Post is the name for the musical twinship between Alaska Reid and Dylan Fraser. They are two, Gemini-like forces, both embarking on polar careers before meeting entirely by chance (or fate, if you prefer). ‘Rust’, their second single, is proof that lightning can strike twice.

Coincidentally, they discovered they are from towns which share the same name – one in Scotland, the other in Montana. Alaska’s music is drawn from the dark atmospherics of the American indie scene, and Dylan’s is pop but if it were warped by a house of mirrors. Together, their music is a far more feral thing – the wolfish qualities of Scottish rock’n’roll meets the expansive ways of the Montana open roads and mountain ranges. This is band music at its highest good, the combined magic between two minds to give spirit to previously untapped possibilities. ‘Magic’ might seem like a strong word – but with a name that honours witches by reclaiming the English runes of the 17th century which warded them off, magic could very well be the thing.

Witch Post sparked intrigue with their debut single, ‘Chill Out’ – a track which calls upon the spirits of Hole and Pixies with its venom, emotion and rough edges. The arrival of ‘Rust’ casts another, deeper kind of spell. Swooning guitars cushion this aching duet before it all bleeds out into a chorus of grunge-driven catharsis, equal parts tender and destructive.

Speaking on the track, Alaska shares: “‘Rust’ is about taking a chance on someone. Dylan and I met under strange circumstances. Both of us have solo careers and plenty of baggage. Neither of us intended on being in a band again. However, the timing was undeniable and we couldn’t help but write together. “Rust” is inspired by the album “All Shook Down” by The Replacements. It’s a combination of heart-aching melancholy cut with the glimmer of change.”

Witch Post will be bringing their songs to life at The George Tavern in London on 18th December. Secure your ticket HERE.
