Newcastle’s TV Death return this Halloween with the second single ‘Scarecrow’ from their upcoming EP ‘The God, The One and The Devil’. In the spirit of the spooky season, they also release the accompanying music video – the first chapter of the overarching horror story put together by all videos from the EP.

Inspired by the trials and tribulations of trying to find love during the pandemic, ‘Scarecrow’ is a potent blend of garage rock, horror pop and post-punk. With a vocal style reminiscent of Dave Vanian of The Damned, the song’s dark lyrics are delivered with distinctly sharp abrasiveness over a thumping bass line and a wacky guitar melody.

On the track they said “Scarecrow was inspired by a collection of friend’s stories of dating during the pandemic and the anxieties of catching covid in the pursuit of finding love. I had this tongue and cheek line ‘there’s scarecrow in the field of love’ describing the strange times we were going through where everyone was losing touch with the feeling of a strangers’ touch due to covid and only putting on their proper clothes to go to the supermarket.”

The video for ‘Scarecrow’ is our introduction to the 5 part overarching storyline created from the videos from the EP all centred around taking modern societal issues and painting them with B-horror movie visuals. . Shot by Firestone Video, we are shown a young couple meeting up in a crop field during a plague, but their dreamy rendezvous turns into a nightmare as their picnic is crashed by a scarecrow in their field of love.

2021 proved to be an auspicious start for the group, as they played a host of dates across the UK, including gigs in London, Glasgow, Manchester and their native north-east, where they promoted their EP Isolation with a sold-out debut. Key single ‘Crank Bugs’ was named one of Louder Than War’s top 100 tracks of the year, while the title track received airplay from BBC 6 Music. Realising their potential, Wipe Out Music Publishing moved quickly to sign the band in 2022.

Earmarked as an act to watch in 2023, TV Death are working on their most ambitious projects yet, featuring material produced by Sam Grant of Pigsx7, and are raring to take their scorched-earth live show on the road after warming up with support slots with hard hitting acts such as Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Yabba and Hallan.

The ‘Scarecrow’ single and music video will be released 31st October. The EP ‘The God, The One and The Devil’ is set to release 24th November.
