The Guru Guru have today announced their new album Make (Less) Babies which releases October 27th, and have released a brand new single off the forthcoming album. ‘Lotta Tension’ is the first single with the band also releasing a video to go with the song.
Sticking to their typical expressive and experimental style, ‘Lotta Tension’ fuses together prog rock and indie while remaining firmly rooted in their art rock roots. The Guru Guru have crafted a distinct style that allows ‘Lotta Tension’ to have so many sounds yet not feel disjointed.
Speaking on the single vocalist Tom Adriaenssens said “this is a song about performance pressure. Too many choices, possibilities, FOMO, constant streams of media—we’ve all experienced the challenges of a world that changes too fast”. Adding to this he said “we need tension and stress in our lives, but we need to be more aware of it. Treat the disease, not the symptoms—something like that”.
Make (Less) Babies is the first effort from the band where they have written, composed, rehearsed, recorded, produced and mixed everything themselves. Speaking on the recording process Adriaenssens explains “Jan (guitarist) provided his studio in Hasselt, friends let us use some awesome gear, we rented an apartment in Hasselt for a week and we recorded the third album together live. We recorded all the instruments in 2 days.”
