Regarding their approach to their new material, vocalist/bassist Will Palmer comments “ “I feel that we’ve come a long way since our last release, and this EP really helps to demonstrate that—it’s the four of us as a cohesive unit being really comfortable in incorporating more experimental elements into our songwriting while still maintaining a strong sense of melody. Recording at home means we’re able to take our time pursuing any weird ideas we might have and make exactly the kind of music we want to. With that in mind, we set out to push against some of our preconceptions of what self-recorded music ‘should’ sound like and do things that we thought would challenge us. When we started out, our influences were more rooted in punk and some of the weirder 90s indie bands like Pinback and Failure – we had a lot of fun revisiting those influences and I think it shows in songs like ‘Extinction Bell’ and ‘Panic Room’.”
Sun Spot’s variety of alt-pop, with an industrial twinge in its flavouring, pulsates between influences from electronica. ‘90s indie, post-punk as well as melancholic 2000s dance and contemporary hyperpop.
Lead single ‘Keepsake’ saw support from The Independent, Distorted Sound Magazine as well as radio play from BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders and Alex Baker at Kerrang! Radio, the latter making the band his Fresh Blood Featured Artist of the Week.
The band will be playing several live dates in the coming months, including a main stage appearance at Dot to Dot Festival.
