Continuing a run of killer single releases, South coast “grit pop” trio snake eyes have released their blissed-out new track ‘another world’. It’s one of vocalist and guitarist Jim Heffy’s favs and he says: “i wrote it around the time we recorded the skeletons ep but it sounded a lot different back then. originally, the drums didn’t come in until the louder part of the song. tom (brooker, drums) wasn’t keen on the track but i didn’t wanna let it fall by the wayside so I worked on it more and that’s the version that made it to recording. now everybody is happy! it’s a straight up love song which is something i’d not done before. it’s a song that i can’t wait to get in the live set!”
‘another world’ follows on from the effervescent and uplifting ‘happy pills’ and ace rock track ‘dig’, which was snake eyes’ first release with UK indie Killing Moon Records and received radio spins on BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6Music, as well as love from the likes of Rock Sound.
snake eyes have been sharing exclusive peeks at what they’re up to and generally hanging out in “the hard luck club” – it’s their safe space fan-led community on discord in which people can make like-minded friends and have lots of fun.
Kicking some punk attitude in with their grunge and brit pop influences (think hints of Nirvana, blur, Reuben, a dusting of Wolf Alice & a splash of Weezer), snake eyes self-produced their first EP but this time around have collaborated with friend and producer James Simpson (Indoor Pets). Dan Coutant (Drug Church, War on Women, Gnarwolves) delivered on the mastering mystery magic.
The live-music-prohibiting events of 2020 meant that snake eyes launched with merely one gig under their collective belt, but you can bet your bottom dollar that this time round you’ll be able to catch snake eyes in actual real life, blowin’ ya noggins off as they rip rock shows up and down the UK. They’ve already started to set stages alight with their fire riffage. Various support slots and festival appearances have been announced so far, as well as a short run of gigs with WACO.
