Today, Los Angeles’ Militarie Gun announce their much-anticipated debut album “Life Under The Gun”, due June 23rd via Loma Vista Recordings. The 12-track project will include the previously-released single “Do It Faster,” as well as today’s new single “Very High,” which arrives with a Mason Mercer-directed music video that pays tongue-in-cheek homage to the 90’s and 00’s teen-drama TV genre.
“Very High” distills vocalist and bandleader Ian Shelton’s uncanny ability to marry instantly-memorable hooks to classic punk anthems, this time letting the song’s soaring chorus take the spotlight. It is quintessential Militarie Gun, pairing the energy of hardcore to surefire melodic intent, and marks their most direct and accessible musical statement to date.
“Life Under The Gun” is available to pre-order now on limited edition vinyl, CD, and cassette HERE
Speaking about the new single, Shelton says, “‘Very High’ centers around the desire to escape the embarrassment of day to day life as much as possible. From the lyrics, to the video to the cover art of the album, it’s about struggling with something no one else sees, ‘I’ve been feeling very down, so I get very high.’”
Following their heavily lauded first performances in the UK last year with Fiddlehead and an incendiary set fueled by stage invasions at Outbreak in Manchester, the band will play a much-anticipated debut London headliner next month at The George Tavern, a show that sold out in minutes upon its announce last month.
In June and July, Militarie Gun will return to Europe to perform at multiple festivals, namely a second successive year at Outbreak, The Great Escape, Kliko, Roskilde, Metropolis, 2000 Trees, Ieper, an instore and signing at Rough Trade and to support post-hardcore luminaries Rival Schools, including their London headliner at Electric Ballroom.
