The new record, due out November 22nd, was announced with a new single, ‘Safe and Warm’, featuring Shane Parsons of DZ Deathrays.
Australian instrument-swapping punk duo Mannequin Death Squad have announced details of their upcoming “turbo-charged” album, ‘Wise and Dangerous.’ The self-released album is set to drop in late November, and will feature previously released singles “Monsters” and “Everybody’s Movin’.” Along with the reveal of the album, they’ve also put out a third new single: the “visceral” cut ‘Safe and Warm’, recorded in collaboration with DZ Deathrays’ Shane Parsons.
Giving the scoop on the new track, MDS said it “explores the lengths that people will go to stay comfortable and not inconvenienced, even if it’s to their downfall.” “Listening back, the song definitely inspires us to become more self-reliant and responsible for our own destiny”, they observed. “It also feels like a battle between weakness and strength that pulls back and forth throughout the guitar driven chaos.”
They also gave insight into how this particular guest appearance came to be. “Bringing in Shane was really fun too. The song was pretty much finished, but we felt it needed an extra edge and level of play. We immediately thought his vocals would fit the vibe and intensity of the song. We love the DZ stuff so it was cool to have him DM us back on Insta saying he’s keen to be on the track. We absolutely love how it all came out.”
Many fans will likely feel the same way, as the track is said to “explode with adrenaline-fueled guitars, as frontwoman Elly Vex unleashes a sucker punch of raw energy and rebellion.” The duo also released a “dynamic” new video to accompany the track, directed by Vanessa Cox.
Speaking on the album as a whole in the announcement, the duo were clearly very pleased with the end result. “This one feels super special to us”, they said. “We explore a bit of a different style in some tracks, but it’s still full of everything that makes us MDS. A lot of the songs were written on tour just after the world opened up again a couple of years ago.”
“There is a hell of a lot of energy and raw emotion scattered throughout the 11 tracks. It’s a concept album about how people can be considered dangerous by those who seek to control them.”
Indeed, the album also promises to be chock-full of anecdotes and emotions, a great many being brought to the surface while on the road. “We drew inspiration from some things that we went through recently, so it was a lot of fun road testing these tracks throughout Australia, UK, Europe and even India last year. It was very cathartic so we can’t wait to tour the new album in full when it’s out.“
‘Wise and Dangerous’ will be released via the duo’s own Riot Love Records on November 22nd. Stream new single ‘Safe and Warm’ here.
