In our next Band Spotlight, we chat to Finn from rising British alt-rockers, Keo!

How are you guys?

Really good, things are going well. Stoked to play British Summertime at Hyde Park on the 30th.

How do you define success as a band?

I think we’d define success as a packed out room of people we don’t know, who can relate to our music. We love playing live and nothing really tops a good crowd.

‘Fly’ is a real banger – talk to us about the experiences that led to its creation?

Thank you, glad you like it. The song’s creation was sparked by the experience of losing trust for someone. I wrote it whilst still in that relationship, I had just moved to London and I was living on my own. I think being alone is often the key to reflection, Fly is a product of how I felt in that moment- a cry for help if you will.

I really like ‘Thorn’ as well, very introspective – is it difficult to write that way at all, or is it simply a form of release?

Glad you like Thorn too, can’t wait to put it out. I found writing Thorn very therapeutic, I was going through a rough moment. I had broken up with someone after being with them for years and so the song really just fell out. I wanted it to be honest and specific, a break up from a man’s perspective. I hope people can relate to it.

What’s motivating you creatively outside of music at the moment, think specific people, places and movies, for example?

Surfing for me (Finn), I can’t speak for the other lads. I spent a few years growing up in Portugal, I’m buzzing to go back there after our next run of shows and get in the water.

Weird one for you – if you could come up with a Frankenstein’s Monster for the band’s sound – the head of InMe, the arms of Frank Turner for example, what would it be, and why?

Legs of Pearl Jam, It’s our energy more than our songwriting. Body would be Ben Howard, I listened to his first two records nonstop growing up. It’s embedded in me, every song I write whether I try or not will have an influence of him. Arms, either Fontaines DC or Wunderhorse, any of the contemporary guitar bands that are driving the sound forward. Head, has to be Radiohead. No explanation needed really.

Is there anything you’d like to plug before we finish up today?
