Live concert series Live at York Museum Gardens will return for its second run of shows in July 2025 following a sold-out debut series this year. A weekend of unique performances within the grounds of the city’s beloved landmark, Elbow have been announced as 2025’s first headliner and series opener on 3rd July with special guests Billie Marten and Eliza Carthy & The Restitution.

Launched in July 2024, the inaugural sold out weekend saw 12,000 music fans enjoy unforgettable performances from the likes of Shed Seven, Jack Savoretti, Peter Doherty and more, significantly contributing to the city’s bars, restaurants, shops and hotels in the process.

The picturesque botanic gardens sit in the heart of York, founded in the 1830s York Museum Gardens are over 10 acres of picturesque botanic gardens set against the backdrop of the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey and home to the Yorkshire Museum. Today, the gardens welcome around 1.3 million visitors a year as a space to relax and enjoy.

Opening the series in 2025 are Manchester-based five-piece Elbow. The iconic band set a new benchmark in intelligent British rock music with their 2008 LP ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’, which garnered the group that year’s Mercury Music Prize amongst many others whilst the single ‘One Day Like This’ has since become an indelible cultural anthem after closing the London 2012 Olympic Games. Constantly building on their distinctive, cinematic sound, lead by the candid lyricism of frontman and broadcaster Guy Garvey, Elbow have subsequently released six chart-topping, critically acclaimed albums. Their latest release, this year’s ‘Audio Vertigo’, finds Elbow exploring a raw, kinetic sound with heady focus on pulse and groove.

From bringing musical legends like Elbow to York along with providing an incredible platform for rising regional talent, the event’s promoters, Leeds based Futuresound Group and York Museums Trust are looking forward to another year of creative collaboration to deliver amazing outdoor summer concerts.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be working with the York Museum Gardens team once more for another great event.  This year was such a proud moment for all involved.  Witnessing how incredibly important it is to the people of York, their support and how it was received is so heartwarming.  Seeing the city come to light and witnessing the benefits of the economic impact was a wonderful thing.”

Richard Saward, Head of Operations at York Museums Trust, said:

“We are excited to welcome the concerts back to York Museum Gardens in 2025.  The events last year brought in new audiences to the city and the gardens, with the income we raised invested back into our museums, galleries and collections.”
