Art-rock outfit Pop Vulture have returned with huge new single ‘Comforting Lie’ via Come Play With Me Records / EMI North.
Emerged from Leeds’ famed DIY scene, Pop Vulture wield influences from the dissonance of the No-Wave movement and the unconventionality of post-punk and drape them over tightly-wound grooves. All of this simmers away underneath stream-of-consciousness themes, often of mental health and the relentlessness of living…
Beginning their journey experimenting with noise-rock before meandering through kraut and post-rock detours, they’ve now arrived at a new-wave inspired post-punk hybrid. Spilling over with fractious guitars, rhythmic percussion and sour melodies, Pop Vulture have create a sonic atmosphere that has heads twisting and bodies contorting.
Sweet trombone lines that lullaby between the verses offset the argumentative guitar and bass lines that seductively battle with each other for an ounce of space. Uncharacteristic power chords and a driving back beat allow you to settle in before the piece transcends, The song ends anarchically as you are led through a blissful harmonious landscape before being punched by distorted guitars and accumulating feedback.
Comforting Lie is a stark, pessimistic response to the idea that wealthy people are left unsatisfied with their lives despite having money.
A Comforting Lie is nicer than the uncomfortable truth.
Pop Vulture have been demanding the attention of audiences across the UK with a run of much-hyped live shows alongside the likes of Yard Act, Folly Group and English Teacher with more shows soon to be announced.
