At last, some traditional Dick.
We’ve known the return of Dick was inevitable for some time now, with outspoken fans finding Ric’s package hard to swallow, many complaining at the sheer lengths DC would go to to maintain Ric’s firm place in the comic. Dan Jurgens looks set to offer us some climactic fan service as he thrusts Dick upon us once again, something I’m sure we can all appreciate. We have, after all, been craving Dick since our involuntary abstinence started 23 issues ago.
One of the many issues with contemporary DC Comics is ‘Ric Grayson’. Nightwing has been known as “Ric”, as opposed to the more traditional “Dick”, for some time now. This hopefully looks all set to change in Nightwing #73, solicited for June 2020.
The upcoming Nightwing Annual #3 (29th April) is the first time in nearly two years we’ll have seen Nightwing’s name as “Dick Grayson”. DC referred to the black and blue former agent as Dick for the first time since the character’s transformation, following the incident of Batman #55 back in 2018. DC did seem to backtrack slightly with the solicit for #72, calling him both ‘Ric’ and ‘Dick’ at the same time. #73’s solicitation, however, contains no single reference to ‘Ric’.
What do you think? Has Dick finally gone soft?
