This game does not disappoint. I am a huge fan of the Ratchet and Clank series, especially the original trilogy on PS2 as well as the subsequent HD remakes of them on the PS3. It’s strange, although this game is ultimately a remake, it really does feel like so much more. I’m really trying to downplay my love for this game but it is just so much fun.

Visually, it looks great. The levels feel bigger and busier than before. Having R&C on a more powerful console like the PS4 means the levels have much more depth, the planets feel populated, busier but still feel familiar to fan of the series. The more powerful hardware also keeps the game playing smoothly, the framerate is solid throughout, even in the huge bullet-hell firefights that have come to define the series, part of what makes R&C such a fun game to play. And I cannot stress how fun this game is, from start to finish I couldn’t pull myself away. Ratchet’s arsenal is a mix of classic fan favorites (Sheepinator anyone?) as well as some new really interesting guns that couldn’t have existed without the PS4, like the Pixelizer, an awesome shotgun that literally blasts the enemies into a lower resolution. As well as a new assortment of toys to play with in R&C it also has a great upgrade/mod system for your weapons. You can unlock some devastatingly powerful upgrades as well as some really interesting modifications that make the weapons even cooler.
Insomniac haven’t really messed around with what made the R&C so good in the first place, they’ve stuck to what they are incredible at and have brought it to the current generation of consoles. At times the firefights are chaos, but I mean that in the best way possible, the new weapons, the new bosses, it all fits and plays so seamlessly. They’ve just polished up and fine tuned a great game and they’ve done a damn good job. I personally didn’t feel like anything was missing from the story within the original game but I feel when I go back, it might be lacking. The story has been fluffed and filled out and has developed more of a personality. They’ve explored characters more and created a more immersive experience, even managing to use what they’ve done to release a full animated film that fits along with the PS4 game.
This game is perfect for pretty much anyone regardless of age, gender or species; die hard fans of the series and total newcomers, even gamers who might’ve struggled with getting into the series previously. From when I started playing I couldn’t bring myself to play anything else until I’d done everything (literally). It works on loads of levels too, like if you wanted a game that you can jump in and out of, coming back to it when you have the time, R&C works. Any completionists will also love this game too, buying every weapon and making sure you get all of those sneaky Gold Bolts. The iconic challenge mode keeps you playing and coming back for more, making sure you upgrade every weapon to its fullest potential, and then using them to kick ass.
This game is awesome. It’s fun, it’s frantic and incredibly entertaining. Buy it. Borrow it. Play it.
