Licensing veteran publisher, with gaming franchises under its belt such as Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Halo, God of War and others, have struck a deal with the multinational games developer and publisher Ubisoft. Little is known about the deal thus far, but we do know the first collaboration sees the multi-talented author, comic book and screenplay writer Bryan Edward Hill penning this new mini-series that ties into the upcoming Far Cry 6. Joining Hill are illustrator Geraldo Borges perhaps best known for his work on Buffy and at DC Comics, DC Comics colourist Michael Atiyeh and Comicraft providing lettering.
Far Cry: Rite of Passage follows the antagonist of Far Cry 6, Antón Castillo, in the game voiced by theever-frightful Giancarlo Esposito (Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, Stan Edgar in ‘The Boys’, Moff Gideon in ‘The Mandalorian’) and his son in a series of short stories that connect the previous games in the franchise to the latest instalment, due out later this year.
“Thanks to a wonderful collaboration with Dark Horse, we are thrilled to share with our fans the very first Far Cry comic series. Through Bryan and Geraldo’s amazing work, we’ll get a fresh look into our beloved villains’ dark pasts. We can’t wait for everyone to fall down this rabbit hole with us.” – Marie-Joëlle Paquin, product director on Far Cry.
Ubisoft’s other big franchise ‘Assassin’s Creed’ has enjoyed a fair amount of graphic literature tied to the games, but ‘Far Cry: Rite of Passage’ marks the first foray into comics for the Far Cry franchise. The miniseries is 3 issues long and starts on the 19th of May 2021.
