Toronto based duo Dermabrasion have announced their debut album Pain Behaviour which is set to release January 26th via Hand Drawn Dracula. Alongside the album announcement, they have also released a new single ‘Halberdier’ giving a taste of what’s to come.
With an overarching goth feel, ‘Halberdier’ draws on post-punk, industrial and metal influences giving them a unique sound. The duo also released a video for the track which sees a series of clips shot by fans put together giving it a classic bootleg feel.
Dermabrasion have been playing shows in their native Toronto for over a year now, perfecting their sound while keeping their raw punk edge. 2021 saw the band record their demo EP Lunate, which put down the groundwork for their upcoming debut album Pain Behaviour.
With a sound they describe as “death rock & roll”, the duo draws upon influences from all over music to craft their own style. Produced by Josh Korody and mixed by Noah Mintz, Pain Behaviour is the natural evolution from Lunate.
A fascination with the corporeal form and the occult thread through the record in what McGouran describes as a “mid-concept.” With allusions to Roman Catholicism, LaVeyan Satanism and genre fiction, the songs investigate shame, power, duty and inhabiting a human body.
