Dearthworms have announced their debut album, Sapsucker, which will be coming out on July 26, and share their new single, ‘Strike Low’.
“We like things that are fussy, weird and intricate. We love sneaking in a bit of weird dissonance or odd time signatures but it’s making sure that stuff is not just a gimmick. It shouldn’t feel forced. It should feel natural but it’s just off-centre enough that it pulls you in a different way. But within that normality, we tap into a kind of nauseating weirdness,” explains Finn (guitar), perfectly encapsulating the band’s music.
Through well-done genre-bending, ‘Strike Low’ shows a sneak preview of the Shefflied five-piece’s first album, Sapsucker, playing with country-esque themes, and mixing them with rough riffs, topped off with call and response vocals between vocalists, Nick Potter and Edith Rothwell. Sapsucker will continue this mix of sounds, taking a blend of many different musical genres to form the ultimate Dearthworms album.
Speaking on the ‘Strike Low’ music video, Dearthworms comment, “We felt like the best way to present our horniest song was with chaotic live footage and abstract violence. We cannot confirm who or what was under the spade.”
