Former Glamour of The Kill vocalist, Davey Richmond opens up on DeadFlight’s future and more, ahead of the release of ‘No Love Lost’ on February 14th.
S] Hi guys, how are you today?
Very good thank you. We are just gearing up for the release of our new EP “No Love Lost” on Feb 14th, so we are super excited in camp DeadFlight right now and for everyone to hear these new songs that we’ve worked hard on.
S] What’s motivating you creatively outside of music – think specific people, places and films, for example?
I love horror movies which helps me with lyrics. Tom likes to watch videos of Eddie Hall lifting heavy weights which makes him hit his drums super hard.
Frank loves Blink 182 hence the pink guitar strap, and Sam loves to keep an eye on the ever-increasing price of fuel, and battery life power so we are always fully charged! A weird and wonderful mix of what makes DeadFlight.
S] How do you define success as a band now?
I always like to look at bands that have worked hard from the bottom up. Bring Me The Horizon are a prime example. I saw them at Certificate 18 in York playing to 150 people and a couple of week’s back saw them headline Sheffield Arena and it’s so good to see. They are absolutely killing it all around the world and are now a festival headliner. They’ve always gotten so much stick, but you cant deny how hard they’ve worked and how much it has paid off! That’s success.
S] Talk us through the highlights of creating ‘No Love Lost’?
‘No Love Lost’ has been worked on over the last year or so and it’s been such a great experience watching it come to life. We’ve been sat on these songs for a while now and it’s going to be great dropping these on Valentine’s Day and hearing what people think.
Recording at Red City Recordings in Manchester is always super fun, and Dave is a joy to work with. We’ve worked hard on these tracks so it’s great to finally get them in the world.
S] How have your previous band experiences helped you craft your work with DeadFlight?
I think it’s always best to take a pinch of salt with whatever anyone says in the music industry. People can say one thing, and the next day it can be completely different so power on through and have fun which is exactly what we are doing.
S] What have you learned about yourselves as artists and creatives through crafting singles like ‘Won’t See Heaven’?
I look at ‘Won’t See Heaven’ as one of our strongest songs and it’s a great example of DeadFlight as a whole. I think we’ve learned that we can go from a super heavy riff, into a catchy chorus which is what we are all about. We like to mix it all up and have people banging their heads but also leave singing the choruses.
S] Do you have any messages for the people who have supported you, and will continue to do so?
The support we have had from the very start has been the force driving us to do what we do. It’s so good to drive to different cities and see people singing our songs back to us. For that we are eternally grateful!
S] Thanks for the time! Catch you soon!
Thank you so much!
