Underoath, a progressive, heavy rock band have released their seventh full length album ‘Voyeurist’. A band who actively seek to push the envelope always – do not disappoint here! Vocalist/drummer Aaron Gillespie emphasised how the band like to ever evolve, and do not want to become part of the ‘rinse and repeat’ cycle.
The album emerged from the band’s critically-acclaimed livestream event ‘Underoath: Observatory.’ The one-of-a-kind-experience gave the band such confidence; they decided to self-produce for the first time in their almost two decade career. Taking such a risk paid off for the band with ‘Voyeurist’ being the perfect blend of intimate and monumental.
Voyeurist takes the listener on a unique journey, encouraging the listener to discover their own meaning in the tracks. Underoath lose no time with the first track ‘Damn Excuses’ giving you an instant dose of adrenaline. ‘Damn Excuses’ is a highly energetic, addictive number, which will empower you. The album dances between Underoath classic sounds and something completely unexpected. Take the more melodic ‘Pneumonia’ a curveball after previous high-octane tracks. It encapsulates the feeling of losing yourself; letting yourself go, allowing your mind to wander freely. After the rollercoaster ride society has been on, this one is just what we all need. With each listen, Voyeurist uncovers something new and hooks you in with another lyric or back beat. Leaving you to wonder which track is my favourite?
