Brandon Crook answers some questions for Soundspher as the band gets ready to release ‘People Like Me & You’!
S] How are you guys doing today?
Yeah, great thanks!
S] How do you define success as a band?
I think success for us is measured in longevity. It’s hard to even survive as a band these days and we know as much as anyone how much work you have to put in to make things happen. But for us, if we can make albums, go out and tour them, and ultimately keep growing our fanbase, then we’re moving in the right direction.
S] Do you think much about the legacy of The Sherlocks now?
I don’t think about the band’s career as legacy, I’m too busy being in it! But if I was to look backward I want people to say they wrote some great songs and they worked hard.
S] How do you look back on ‘Live For The Moment’ now?
It was a great time, there seemed to be more bands around. Whether there was or not is a different question but it certainly felt like it…. And it also felt like we were part of something special and we were giving our fans a long-awaited album that everyone was really buzzing for. We speak to people all the time at shows and the amount of people telling us that that album changed their life or was the soundtrack to their teens which is amazing.
S] In what ways would you say that ‘People Like Me & You’ as an album pushes you/the band in new ways as artists?
Every way to be honest… lyrically I had to dig deep and work under pressure as the songs weren’t fully finished. I had to revisit the songs and really try and understand what I was trying to say at the time of starting them. Musically I think we’ve brought a hell of a lot to the table and tried things we would never dream of a couple of albums ago… I always think we’ve ticked off a lot of things we’ve never done before on any of our previous three albums.
S] Is the single of the same name representative of where you are headed, sonically with the album?
Who knows, it’s hard to pinpoint because there genuinely is a lot of different avenues we’ve gone down on this record. People Like Me & You is just a glimpse of what this album is about.
That particular track is a bit of a party anthem and a real feel-good dancey sort of number… but there’s much going on throughout the album. I think the thing that ties all the songs together this time around is the chorus, everyone is huge in its own right. There’s certainly no filler on this record, every single one is a monster.
S] You’ve got some awesome tour dates with Richard Ashcroft coming up, and so much more, what’s the mood like in the band right now?
We are all absolutely buzzing! It’s great to be back doing what we love, and even better when you’ve got new music out and new record on the way! It feels like all our fans are really behind us with this record! People should get excited because this is our best record yet without a doubt!
S] Is there anything you’d like to add before we finish?
No, just thank you to all our fans who support us and buy our records, buy tickets to the gigs, buy merch, stream our music and just spread the word about the band… we appreciate it! And to anyone who’s reading this, if you’re not familiar with us check us out and get on board!
