Artist and inker, known prodominantly for his work on ‘Planet Hulk‘, Jeffrey Huet has died from complications of the coronavirus COVID-19. Marvel yesterday confirmed the news of his passing with a touching tribute on Twitter, calling Huet “a talented inker”. Huet’s friend, fellow artist and collaberator Carlo Pagulayan, who worked with Huet on Planet Hulk, was one of the first to share his thoughts on social media.
“Today we lost an artist and a friend, Jeffrey Huet. Jeff was my partner in Fantastic Four and Planet Hulk, and a few other books, but before that we went to the same school and had the same dream; to work in comics. And that we did. Rest in peace Jeff. I wish I could’ve been more help.P.S. for those who were planning to send help when he was being treated, please still do so. The cost of Covid treatment here is staggeringly high, so the family will still need all the help they can get.” – Carlo Pagulayan on Facebook.
On his own Facebook page, Huet shared images of his hospitalisation earlier this month, as well as politely providing donation details for his family, who could not afford his COVID-19 bills. Treatment for COVID-19 is very expensive in the Philippines, and not as widely available as it is here in the UK.
“Being hit by COVID-19 is not an easy thing to experience that’s why I’m asking for more help at this. Please we need all the help we can get. God bless you all.” – Jeffrey Huet on Facebook.
Huet was best known for his work on Planet Hulk, but he worked on a number of titles for Marvel, unlcuding Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Deadpool and Nova. Huet also worked on several issues of Animal Man and Birds of Prey in the priliminary years of the ‘New 52‘ era over at DC Comics. Huet worked with Mark Millar on a number of occasions, including Ultimate Avengers and Millarworld’s ‘Superior‘. Huet is survived by his wife, Bing Gattoc, and their two young daughters. Carlo Pagulayan has requested fans donate any spare money they may have to help and assist Jeff’s family, which they can do using details in this post.
