Swedish viking metal icons Amon Amarth have released a video for ‘Heidrun’ off their 2022 album The Great Heathen Army. Alongside the video the band have also released a four track digital single that features three different versions of ‘Heidrun’ as well as a live performance of ‘Put Your Back Into The Oar’.
The four track digital single features ‘Heidrun (2023 Remix)’, ‘Heidrun (Live at Grasspop 2023)’ and ‘Heidrun (Goat Remix)’. The goat remix version of the song has frontman Johan Hegg’s vocals replaced by goat noises for the whole song, as any goat remix should.
Speaking on the tack and the importance of the mythological Heidrun, Johan Hegg says “Heidrun is an interesting mythological character, it’s a goat that stands on the roof of Valhalla eating the leaf of the big tree Lärad. The milk that she gives is the honey/mead that the warriors in Valhalla drink each night. The lyrics themselves are both about Vikings travelling the world but also metaphorically what it is to be a touring musician”.
Amon Amarth are about to continue their worldwide raid, with a US alongside fellow Swedish band Ghost. The US tour follows the bands landmark tour last year which saw them become the first death metal band to headline the KIA Forum in Los Angeles.
