In our first Spoken Word entry on Soundsphere, we are delighted to publish the work of Andrew Gooch (who will take role of Spoken Word Coordinator on the website). This is called ‘Follow’.

I left a like and a comment on your most recent Facebook post but I’m not following you.
I’m walking your way past my usual bus stop but I’m not following you.
I’m coming to the gig tonight to see the band you like but I’m not following you.
I’ll wait outside the club until you arrive, but I won’t follow you.
I’ll keep to the rooms you enter but I won’t follow you.
I’ll hang around the ladies’ toilets for you, but I won’t follow you.
I ordered a drink at the bar where you stood but I didn’t follow you.
I made sure you were safe as you stumbled your way home, but I didn’t follow you.
I saw you collapse on the pavement, but I didn’t follow you
They brought me up on the charge of stalking, but I wasn’t following her.
They accused me of raping, beating and murdering her but I wasn’t following her.
They took me to court, showed footage of us in the street, but I wasn’t following her.
The Jury said I was guilty, but I didn’t follow her.
The others inside said they’d get me, but I didn’t follow her.
The surgeon said I lost a lot of blood, but I didn’t follow her.
The board let me out early for good behaviour, but I can’t follow her.
The family said they still believe me, but I can’t follow her.
The councillor says I should start moving forward, but I can’t follow her.
Still, the names and suspicions go on behind my back to this day, she’s following me.
