The record, which will be their first in 13 years, was announced alongside new single, ‘Vultures.’
All-girl metal band KITTIE have just announced the details of their first new album in 13 years. ‘FIRE’ will drop on June 21st, as the follow up to 2011’s ‘I’ve Failed You.’ The album also marks the return of former member Ivy Jenkins on bass, following the death of Trish Doan in 2017.
Along with the announcement, the band has dropped a third single, ‘Vultures’, which follows previous cuts, ‘Eyes Wide Open’ and ‘We Are Shadows’, released in February and April respectively. Talking about the new single, frontwoman and guitarist Morgan Lander said, “‘Vultures’ is a bold musical declaration, signalling our new beginnings as a band.” She also called the song “a warning to those with hidden agendas, who thrive on deception. It’s a proclamation of breaking free of the chains of exploitation, and a reckoning for those who pick at the bones of those who suffer in silence.”
The brutally heavy single is also accompanied by a brand-new video, featuring footage of the group’s recent performance at Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas. You can watch it below.
Speaking about the new album more in-depth, the “original queens of metal” seemed just as surprised as many fans that this is even happening at all. “10 years ago, if someone would have told us that we would be releasing new KITTIE music in 2024, we’d have dismissed them right away”, said Lander. “It feels like something deeper than fate that’s brought us together again, allowing us to create something fearless and magical for you. We’ve worked incredibly hard over the past year, and surrounded ourselves with the ultimate dream team to make this album a reality. We cannot wait for you to lose yourselves in the passion and strength of ‘Fire.'”
The band’s comeback was reportedly spurred on following the resurgence of nu-metal in 2021. The group’s first album, ‘Spit’ was one of the only examples of female-centric nu-metal, breaking new ground in the style. KITTIE began receiving offers to play shows after the band’s music was becoming popular on TikTok. The quartet performed their first reunion show in late 2022, and despite initial hesitancy around writing new music, they eventually began work on the new album last year, with producer Nick Raskulinecz.
KITTIE’S new album ‘Fire’ is due out on June 21st via Sumerian Records. The new single ‘Vultures’ is available now, and the album can be pre-ordered here. See below for the new album’s artwork and track list.
