WB Games and DC Comics have in the early hours of this morning announced ‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’, a brand new “genre-bending” action-adventure shooter that can be played solo or with up to four players in online co-op. Sadly, no local co-op for this one. Based on DC characters we all know and mostly love, and crafted by British developer Rocksteady Studios, known for the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham series, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League marks a bold new direction for the studio, combining the studio’s signature character-driven story based gameplay with third-person shooter. There is no set release date yet, but it’s scheduled for 2022 and confirmed for Xbox Series X, PS5 and PC.
Set in a “richly detailed” sandbox city of Metropolis, the game departs from the more traditional Gotham City and ventures into Superman’s territory. The player controls Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark, who are tasked with killing the Justice League. Each squad member has their own unique moveset with enhanced traversal abilities to freely explore the dynamic open-world of Metropolis, along with a variety of weapons to customise and skills to master.
As you can see from the trailer, no real details on gameplay are on display, meaning we can’t really comment on what the game will look like. Our best bet would be something similar the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series, particularly with the use of four characters on screen at once. Rocksteady have a proven track record, and with the game at least four years into development and with two to go, we would expect this to be good. The trailer doesn’t necessarily reflect how good the game could be, which is a shame. Consider this more a high budget ‘proof of concept’ than anything else.
