For the past few months, Marvel have rotated a number of their best books and listed them for free on Comixology. Originally speculated as a “glitch”, the selection currently on offer, the third rotation, prove this is no glitch.
This month we have some large collections, featuring characters such as Black Panther and Luke Cage. We are also treated with some “white” character titles, such as Fantastic Four and Damage Patrol. Both these were written by the late Dwayne McDuffie, co-founder of minority-owned Milestone Media and sole creator of the popular character Static. Before McDuffie’s premature passing in 2011, he was best known for writing and producing Ben 10, Justice League Unlimited and Static Shock, in adition to his healthy bibliography as a comic book writer.
Perhaps this is a coincidence, but the timing is perfect for Marvel to be supporting the #BlackLivesMatter movement and casting black characters and creators in the limelight. We don’t know when this offer will expire, so grab them when you can!
