In our latest interview, we chat to of Nico Vega’s drummer, Dan Epand about the band’s music and inspirations.
S] How are you guys doing today – what’re you up to?
A] “Great!! We had a rehearsal this morning to prep for the trip to Europe. That was a lot of fun – we are really excited to come to Germany and the UK! Now, I am driving down to San Diego for a few days with family at the beach!!”
S] How do you look back on the success of ‘Beast’ now?
A] “It was one of the first songs we wrote, and it immediately became kind of an anthem for us and our fans. It took a few years to catch on, but we are glad it had the opportunity to find an audience!!”
S] What keeps you guys passionate about creating outside of music – think movies and art?
A] “I think part of the job of the artist is to continue to find fuel in other art. I direct all the band’s music videos, and am also working on a script. I like being busy, and I love being inspired. If I am not intensely floored about something I am working on, I don’t really know what to do with myself.”

[like_to_read][/like_to_read]S] What are you most looking forward to about touring with Imagine Dragons in Europe?
A] “Playing shows on that scale is so exciting. Playing to that many people, in rooms that size is really special and we feel blessed to have that opportunity. Also, this is our first trip to Germany! We can’t wait!”
S] How do you feel like you have progressed and developed as a band since you started up until this point?
A] “Early Nico Vega was especially raw. We have definitely refined our sound a lot since then. We have really grown as producers and songwriters too. But we have never really been tied to Nico Vega being one thing. We write a lot of different kinds of music and I think there is a lot of diversity to both of our albums.”
S] Is there a track from the new record that you’re most excited about – that you feel like defines where the band is at right now?
A] “That is hard. Maybe ‘No Home’ since it was the most recent we wrote. Its really that simple. We always are most excited about whatever is new.”
