For our next Reverbnation spotlight, we chat to Rat Westlake of Gothenburg-based band, The Cat Killers.
S] What, or who are your great musical inspirations?
R] “Some of them are: PJ Harvey, Philemon, Arthur and the Dung, Cardiacs, Deltaheads, Nancy Sinatra and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.”
S] What about personally, what kinds of themes and ideas can inspire your songs?
R] “Some of the words that describe our songs include: Twisted, sugar rush, childish, nursery rhyme, nightmares, unbalanced, happiness, burlesque, kaleidoscope, kitsch, Alice in Wonderland, dysfunction, society, instability.”
S] What song that you are working on right now best defines your sound, and why?
R] “There’s a track called ‘Idiot’ that we have. That song has contrasts of joyous, light and fun music with dark and twisted lyrics.”
[like_to_read][/like_to_read]S] Do you have a message for any UK fans?
R] “We’re really looking forward to coming over again sometime so keep your eyes to the ground and your ears peeled…”
S] What can people expect from your live show?
R] “We promote energy, performance and fun. It’s a punk attitude in a dark theatre background. The live show is where the music really comes to life. The visual aspect of performance lifts music to another level. We’re bringing you audio Prozac.”
S] What are some of your biggest challenges right now?
R] “I guess that our biggest challenge is keeping the lineup stable. Not just mentally either. Our drummer is out on world tour currently with a major Swedish artist and our bassist recently moved to a different part of the world in order to pursue a career as a horse whisperer – probably – or something like that. So currently we’ve got our original bassist back standing in and our good friend Johan bashing the skins, and eating.”
S] What’re your plans as we move into 2013?
Great music. Can’t wait for you guys to come over to the UK for some shows!
