They will play The Great Escape, and a headline show at The Lower Third in London on May 15th among others.
RnB artist King Isis is set to play a small number of dates in the UK later this month, as well as appearing at Manchester’s Outbreak Festival in June. The dates come in succession of their new EP ‘Shed’, released in March. The EP was described as, “a darker, grungier inversion of the alt-pop and acoustic stripped-back songs heard on Isis’ debut EP ‘scales.'”
“It’s a rejection of the strict, classical piano schooling that once led Isis to question their artistry. “It invites listeners to confront their past and embrace acceptance, and features a wide range of influences from rock to R&B.” It was also reportedly inspired by Gloria E. Anzaldúa’s ‘Borderlands/La Frontera.’
Now, in support of the EP, King Isis will be heading on the road with a short four-date mini tour. They will play a show at the Blue Basement at Third Man Records, London, before performing twice at this year’s The Great Escape in Brighton. They will then head over to Amsterdam for an appearance at London Calling. Finally, in late June, they will also play a slot at the Outbreak Festival in Manchester on June 28.
‘Shed’ received a number of rave reviews upon its release, such as from Alt Press, who said, “get ready to bow down to your rising indie-pop king.” You can see the video for closer ‘NVR RLLLY’ below:
Speaking on the track and video, King Isis themselves said “it explores the unlearning of a toxic and abusive relationship. World-building and storytelling is really important to me. I think visually storytelling is something I admire with some of my favorite artists and is something I feel like creates a larger moment with the music.” The director, Jessie Barr, fully understood this catharsis. As the tension builds up throughout the song, the video parallels.”
In addition, King Isis also landed a spot on the recent Pigeons and Planes compilation ‘See You Next Year 2’, alongside Kenny Mason, Paris Texas, ICECOLDBISHOP, and Junior Varsity among others.
