The study evaluated which top global music festivals are the most accessible for those with disabilities

Handicare, in partnership with Age Co, has published the results of a study investigating which global music festival is most accessible for those with disabilities.

The research considered a number of factors in order to come to a conclusion, including availability of wheelchair viewing areas, accessible routes, and accessible parking.

In their results, they revealed that Glastonbury, held every year on Worthy Farm in the UK, is the most accessible major music festival in the world. Coachella and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival took second and third.

Their research also displayed a number of other findings, related not only to physical, but also mental disabilities. Handicare’s findings showed that while 76% of the most popular music festivals offer accessible viewing areas, only 20% have wheelchairs available to hire. Furthermore, only 24% were reported to offer sensory rooms and quiet areas.

Among some of the other, more positive statistics, the study found that 80% of festivals offer accessible toilets, and that 72% offer accessible routes or step-free access to festival goers.

Other factors considered in the study include discounted tickets or carer tickets, accessible shuttle services/transport, guide dog permittance, and accessible listening services.
