Bassist Brandon Schwartzel of Fidlar stops in for a Q/A with Dom to talk about the band’s UK shows, the ‘unplug’ album, ‘Move On’ and more!
S] Hi guys, how are you?
Pretty good. Not bad. Can’t complain
S] Talk me through the development of ‘Move On’ – what experiences, if you can share led to the development of that banger of a tune?
Zac had that tune in his head for a while now and we eventually got together and unlocked the beautiful essence contained within.
S] It features in the new EA NHL game too, how buzzed are you for that?
It’s come full circle…we always envisioned that song being the soundtrack to big dudes with metal shoes slamming into each other!
S] ‘Nudge’ is another chaotic beast of a track, can you talk me through that one, and its inspirations?
Sometimes your friend (or yourself) is being a little nightmare and you got to let them know…it’s lyrically about that…but also we just wanted to come up with another song that kids at our shows (and ourselves) would go off too. Having played it for the first time on our last tour…mission accomplished
S] How do you look back at your self-titled album from 2013 now?
With a deep fondness but also a “how the fuck are we still alive” feeling.
S] How interesting/different was it building the ‘unplug’ record?
Even though people may think we’re super badass party punkers…we’re sensitive artists and sometimes you wanna feel your songs with a little emo-ness.
S] How has your attitude to success changed and developed over time?
Excited to meet this “success” you speak of and hope we can develop our relationship over a loooong time
S] You’ve got some UK dates coming up, can you tell me about some of your favourite UK memories?
One of our first UK shows, the security guard stage dove…I think he realized there was nothing he couldn’t resist any longer and gave in to the power of FIDLAR.
Max and I took too many psychedelics on the ferry once and had a very “interesting” van ride. Also, one time coming back to the UK from Europe and we were behind the dudes from Ministry at customs and realized that we had nothing to worry about.
S] What is your message for UK supporters, who have gotten behind you and will continue to do so?
We are coming for you, we love you, we miss you. You are insane, sorry it’s been so long, we’re ready to make it up to you, we’re scared and excited!
S] Is there anything else you’d like to add before we finish?
Nah!
S] Thanks again for making the time!
Oh for sure!
