It is hard to believe that the new single ‚Black Guns / White Drugs‘ is only the 4th career release ever from this exceptional Alt Rock duo from the North of Italy who entered the stage of music under the name of PEAKS! towards the end of 2020 with their jawdropping debut song ‚Blackout‘. Fast forward no more than ten months – and their debut release cracks the magical threshold of 1 million Spotify streams already!
Following on from two more smash releases with ‘Fired Up’ and ‚Turin‘, both showcasing the band’s versatility and their ability to become a sustainable force in the major league of music, the new release comes as a very logical next level step completing the picture of PEAKS!‘ wide-ranging talent. Soundwise it closes the circle a little bit, certainly being a family member of ‚Blackout‘, but this time like an older brother who looks beyond personal topics and with an awareness of the burning issues affecting all of us in society as a whole.
PEAKS! on the background of the new single:
„‘So hard to find a connection when we got both hands tied‘ – this line can sum up the meaning of ‚Black Guns / White Drugs‘. The song is about how technology is affecting our lives nowadays. We’re hyperconnected but we still can’t find real connections between people.
‚You shot us down with Black Guns and White Drugs‘ is a metaphor about how we depend on devices and contents on social media and the whole online sphere. As internet users we experience something like a neverending rollercoaster ride, with highs and lows. We always feel like we’re not enough but, instead of stopping it, we want more and more. The internet became one of the most powerful drugs ever, and smartphones can now be considered the guns of the 21st century. The chorus is a battle cry, an anthem with gang vocals telling you to ‚Join the club, rise up and throw your fist up‘.”
The video for the new single is a true masterpiece and visualizes the human system overload in an extremely entertaining way. It was fully directed and edited by the band’s very own Lorenzo Mazzucchi.
On the previous singles they received widespread support from streaming platforms including New Music Friday support across Europe as well as key playlists including All New Rock, The New Alt, Pop Rock Shot, Alternative Beats, Rock Italia and New Noise. They also clocked support on Amazon Music from their Fresh Rock and New Rock playlists. Across the airwaves, Jack Saunders has been regularly supporting as part of his BBC Radio 1 ‘Future Artists’ section. Outside the UK, they have got airplay in Italy, USA, Germany, France, Benelux, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe including main supporters such as extraRadio in their home country of Italy, WONC Pure Rock in the Chicago area of the US, MiNT in Belgium and CT Das Radio in Germany. TV has also begun to wake up on the qualities of PEAKS!‘ sound and featured the first single in the opening episode of Love Island in the UK this summer.
Hailing from Turin via London, PEAKS! are a modern Alt Rock duo mixing, killer riffs, fuzzy guitars and dizzy hooks – and they have only just begun. Luca Del Fiore and Lorenzo Mazzucchi are already working on more songs to be released, including their first EP release to follow soon.
The first live shows in their career to get confirmed will see them play two shows in the UK early next year supporting K-Flay, including their first headline show in London preceding this:
January 27 London Camden Assembly
January 28 London The Village Underground
January 29 Manchester Gorilla
